21 Feb 2009The builder decided we needed the steps built now as opposed to waiting. I agreed as now we will have a way to get from the ground to the floor area without the need for makeshift ladders and stuff.pklongball

Raising the RoofSecond day of the roof build and we have some progress. 2 beams are now in place and by the end of the day at least 5 will be welded in place. Some other work also started on the forms for the front steps by the old foundation/beam teampklongball

The roof beginsThis was day one of the roof beginning. 2 men and a younger man showed up with tools, welders, some scaffolding and started work assembling our roof. I'm guessing 10 days to 2 weeks to complete the steel work and get ready for the tile.pklongball

Box Beams17 Feb 2009 They started the day measuring the "C" channel and cutting to length and welding pieces together to get the correct lengths and then sandwiched two pieces together to make a bx beam. Each length will span several columns to form the support for the rest of the roof structure.pklongball

The roof begins18 Feb 2009 second day of roof work. The first section of the steel box beam is raised into position and then welded. Many more to go but we have a good start.pklongball

Bathroom floorThe bathroom floors will be concreted later. They are 5 cm lower than the room floors and have a 1:100 slope to the floor drain. The bathroom area looks small in the photo but it is really quite adequate at 1.4 x 2 m for a hotel room. I once rented an expensive condo in Bangkok with a smaller bathroom.jazzman

ChasingThe electricians started today chasing the walls for the electrical conduits. Although this is a low budget build, we're still using relatively good quality fittings, and concealed wiring. I've tried many times to teach the men to cut the channels with an angle grinder and just knock out the the stuff in the middle, but to no avail. Still using a hammer and a bent nail. Back home in France I have a special two-bladed power tool attachment for doing this.1 commentsjazzman

Valentine's Day 2009This is almost noon on Saturday after the finish of the floor pour on Friday. The builder will have someone on site watering down the concrete to keep it drying a little slower pklongball
