Example Roof TrussA roof truss from a different project. We will be using a modification of this with a 'm' truss design. The shot is notable, because normally a 'truss' system is not used here. With foundation columns and internal walls, the roof structure is normally dependent on being able to be supported within the house boundaries, ie not a truss.

Comparison Regular Cinderblock to Oversize CinderblockThis shows the size differential between the normal cinderblock and the oversize cinderblock. Please also note that the normal cinderblock generally has no openings at the bottom, where the oversize has standard size openings in the top and bottom.dozer22222

9 March 2009This is the beginning of the wall work. Nothing dramatic yet but needs to be done. Two ladies were assigned the job of moving the 2,000 odd blocks onto the floor area in selected places to make them ready for the wall team to start installing them.pklongball22222

curing.jpg
CuringCement mix or concrete mix does not dry - it cures and the process must not be accelerated. These racks just allow any excess water to evaporate slowly, and to prevent the bricks damaging each other.
To build a wall, allowing for mortar, 13.5 bricks are needed for 1 square metre. The method is much stronger, cheaper, far more insulating, and much less labour intensive than using the small traditional red clay bricks still favoured by some constructors.

After_the_Einweihung.jpg
Local tradition.BEFORE you start, please remember that all prices cited in this story are now nearly FIVE years old. Click thumbnail to see an enlargement then click the tiny clapperboard if you want to start a slide show (but without the comments). 15 November 2006: After the foundation holes had been dug and the reinforcing wire cemented , the whole family and the village turns out for a ceremony with the monks. Some mumbojumbo takes place and well wishers throw flowers and coins into the foundations.1 commentsjazzman22222

bathroom_plumbing.jpg
Bathroom plumbing.??n absolute minimum of plumbing goes under the floors. In the side-by-side bathrooms it was kept as close to the outside walls as possible. In the UK, plumbing like this is often on the outside wall - a headache for those cold British winters - where it can be recognised by its swathes of lagging - strips of sacking!
Prepared and installed correctly, PVC piping is perfectly adequate. A lot of it is used in Europe.
For hot water piping see http://www.siamgpi.com/solarpower/multipipe.html
