The first walls1578 viewsWe thought they were going to tile the roof first. 8 ton of tiles had arrived the previous day according to the logistics, just to sit around for another 3 weeks while all the exterior and interior walls were raised.

Guest bathroom1570 viewsBrits don't believe in using up valuable real estate for low occupancy space. Our bathrooms have plenty of room for a WC pedestal, double shower unit, washbasin, plenty of space to hang your clobber while you wash, and for the gents, even a urinal.jazzman

concrete formwork office window1558 viewsThe full width bay windows of the office and the master bedroom are based on five sides of an octagon. We wanted the corner pillars between the windows to be as narrow as possible, but allowing the wall to be an additional support for the relatively heavy tiled octagonal roof above.

soffit1504 views3" wide Sheraboard planks. Screwholes later filled with matching woodfiller.
This wasn't exactly what Jazzman was expecting when he came to inspect the work at the end of the day. The pattern is certainly interesting and is faithfully reproduced again on the opposite corner. Sometimes even Thai workmen can have a creative streak!jazzman

Front Porch1486 viewsThe drainpipes we used for the pillars don't look too bad at all really. While waiting for the ordered mosaic tiles to arrive, we gave them a coat of green paint. They will later be adorned with some porch lights.jazzman

Aligning the formwork for the columns.1471 viewsClick thumbnail to see an enlargement then click the clapperboard to start a slide show. The formwork was aligned to be perfectly vertical. Millimeter accuracy was achieved using a combination of traditional Thai methodology with fishing line and a spirit level, and a modern tripod mounted laser level.jazzman

'Nok' stop1449 viewsThese plastic strips fit under the tiles between the tiles and the eaves board (fascia). Stops birds getting into the roof and nesting. 60cm long, about 7 baht each. (packets of 10). Did YOU remember to install them? They come with profiles to match most tiles and corrugated tin. They also stop mice. Mice like to gnaw away at plasterboard (sheetrock)...

Windows and doors1443 viewsPictured is the best available quality in locally assembled aluminium window and door parts. It's what is used in modern hospitals and clincs. The paint is hi-bake epoxy powder enamel and will last for decades. The extruded aluminium parts for the windows and doors were cut to size and assembled on site for perfect accuracy.
This cannot be done with uPVC frames because the welding has to be done in the factory - requiring greater degree of accuracy in the measurements. Nevertheless, some minor adjustments to the masonry will always be necessary. jazzman
