Last additions - Original Coolthaihouse Build |
As stated in the blurb in good building ideas, I like the idea of using double regular block construction. This could also be modified to have one row of red brick in combination with one row of the regular cement block. This would increase building costs little percentage wise, since it would require only a slight increase in labor and inexpensive materials (regular cement block and cement). I would like to try either using this double block construction, or investigate using the heavy cement block as an alternative.dozerSep 28, 2011

Talking about project hindsight, here was an interesting build of something we drove by one day! They obviously forgot something important, foundation column that would hold up the structure!

Inadequate flashing in the roof valley led to a lot of fix-up later. As far as the roof, in future projects I'll use a specialty company. (22-Mar-04)dozerSep 28, 2011

The surrounding metal has been placed on the perimeter wall and the arrows and leaves are in the process of being painted. The paint used for the decorative elements of the metal are a special yellow primer and gold paint. (31-Jul-04)dozerSep 28, 2011

After many problems with dirty well water the problem was finally resolved. There is a large break in the bottom of the well (lower left side), which is seen once all the water is pumped out. The hole needs to be patched so water cannot 'pour' in like this. (12-Jul-04)dozerSep 28, 2011

The 1600 liter water tank. This tank has an electronic valve which allows the tank to drop to 1/2 full (or are you thinking 'half empty'?) before turning the pump on to refill it. There are two pumps used, one pumps from the tank to the house and one pumps from the well to the tank. (02-Jul-04)dozerSep 28, 2011

The bathtub being framed in the large bathroom. It will be supported by 4 columns of red bricks and will be enclosed in tile. There are still two more columns of bricks to be added. (25-Jun-04)dozerSep 28, 2011
