so they tiled the roof...We thought we could catch up on a long overdue trip to Nakhon Pathom, Bangkok and Jomtien while they tiled the roof. Mail me, PM me, or simply post in the forum if you can spot the TERRIBLE MISTAKE they made while we were away. This was the only problem during the entire project. It was easily rectified, but it proves that expert supervision is needed all the time.jazzman

Protecting the concrete.In the tropics it is indispensable to prevent large pours of concrete from drying out before it cures. We covered the freshly poured ground beams with rice sacks which we drenched with water and kept damp for a week.

formworkFormwork for the 18 colums. It had cost us roughly 1,000 baht in wood per column. But wood for a house like this would normally be about 30,000 baht, a major consideration in a low budget project. This picture resembles some kind of mediaeval battle engine.

Kitchen view 2The cooker hood was got cheap for 6,500 baht from Home Pro, Udon. Normal price was baht 13,000 but it was in a sale because it had been a demo on a display board in the shop. The two-ring glass cooker hob cost about 4,000 baht (if I remember rightly) from Global House, and the stainless steel double sink and drainer cost about 2,700 complete with tap (faucet), drains, and underneath plumbing pipes and U-bends.jazzman

Consumer unitsEach room has its own mini consumer unit with a 32A 2-pole main breaker, a 10A and a 20A MCB. The units cost 500 baht each, fully equipped.
Doing it like this will ensure that if a guest overloads a circuit in the room, only the room breaker(s) will trip and not leave all the rooms in the dark.
The entire building will have a larger consumer unit with an RCCB - of course.

AfterForeman's own initiative, and I must say, it looks quite neat. I would personally have mitered the fascia boards, but one can't expect everything, and this is a budget build after all.
I finally got the price of the plot of land down to one sixth of the Pattaya price. I still think I paid a bit over the odds, but it's really worth it to have a perfectly rectangular piece of land, and to avoid anyone building near my house.
