Poured Foundation297 viewsThe poured foundation - which includes the outside ground beam (plus interior ground beams) and the poured floor surface. The floor was poured on top of the ground beam, so the level of the foundation increased by appx. 7 cm during the pour. Notice the plumbing in the bathroom and the vertical rebar each 40 centimeters.

Tubing Used for Level of Beam #2295 viewsThin plastic tubing which is filled with water is used to determine a level horizontal line for the 10 centimeter beam which will run along the entire structure above the window level. The beam will be located between 2.1m - 2.2m from ground level.

Decorative Glass Blocks293 viewsThe design calls for decorative blocks at several places. Within the bathrooms the blocks are laid in place 2 thick. Each block is 8 cm wide and the rendered wall will be 16 cm - 18 cm wide (the oversize cinder blocks at 16 cm wide). Notice the use of 1 cm wood spacers, which keep the blocks and equal distance apart. Both wood and prefabricated plastic spacers were used.dozer

Visual Roof Inspection291 viewsAs long as there is none of the foil insulation which adheres to, and is installed at the same time the cement tiles are installed, the roof can be inspected visually during rain storms for leaks. If the foil has been applied any roof leaks will be much harder to find and repair. dozer

Concrete Flooring286 viewsHere the surface has been smoothed and is almost complete. Notice how there is only a very thin layer of moisture on the surface. Water is an enemy of concrete, too much is not a good thing.dozer

6mm Tie-in Rebar285 viewsThis shows a piece of 6mm rebar which sits in between blocks as they are laid and goes through the column framework. This is used to secure the blocks on either side of the column together.dozer
