Frame for a fixed window in the octagonal bay. 1.5mm extruded aluminium, white expoxy enamelled. uPVC frames for the windows and entrance and patio doors had been considered, but the cost fell outside the budgeted parameter.jazzman

Porch1409 viewsThe gable end is covered with the same cream coloured 3" SHERA board that will be used for the soffit. The drainpipes for the Tuscan pillars can be clearly seen. They will be clad when we get an idea of what with- probably light green mosaic tiles.

Curtains1402 viewsI believe they are more often called 'drapes' in AE. In the same way, the thing on the top is called a 'pelmet' in standard BE as used in central and SE Asia, so it's probably best not to confuse the Thais by calling it a 'valence'. jazzman

Kitchen base units.1401 viewsFrustrated at not being able to get nice wooden base units carpentered locally, we finally bought these nice cupboard fronts and a matching 3-drawer unit in a sale at Global House. Sale? Hmm... still not cheap - this is 22,000 baht's worth of wood !
Nevertheless, factory made and very nicely finished and polished.

lintels for windows1359 viewsThe formwork for the concrete lintels and corner posts of the octagonal bay window. The idea was to keep the corner posts as narrow as possible to allow for wide windows, whilst providing additional support for the octagonal roof.

More superb engineeriing.1359 viewsClick the image for a full screen view. A load-bearing concrete corner column. Notice how the whole weight of the corner of the roof rests on the too thin rebar of the columns that were made too short. The ring-beam is only a single c-section 4 x 4 steel girder; it should at least be a box section - better would bee two C-sections welded face-to-face. Viewed from the outside, the tiles lifting up a couple of milimetres at their bottom edges demonstrates that the roof is sagging already.jazzman

Holes cut in the brick base for the cupboards.1348 viewsThe light shining through is a special cupboard for the gas tank. There is a steel door on the outside. You drive up with you car with a new gas tank and push it in through from outside. Saves carrying the heavy tank all the way round the back to the kitchen.
Lacking any better ideas, the fronts were tiled with leftovers from one of the bathrooms.

Porch ceiling1342 viewsPorch ceiling made of plasterboard aka gypsum board, Rigips, or known in the US as sheetrock? In the picture is the recess for a downlight. Atilla has recesses like this in all his rooms for the ceiling fans. The Thais just love working with plasterboard since they discovered it last year...
