Kitchen Counter309 viewsWe weren't able to find reasonably priced wood doors for the thai-style counters, so we opted for these plastic ones. (In Phuket, we could have bought nice looking wood doors for the same price of these plastic ones). A stainless steel sink goes under the window, and the top, sides and front of the benches will be covered by 20x20cm stone-look tile. DrDave

Day #15 - Roof Structure305 viewsApparently, the family forgot to take pictures the previous week, so now we jump ahead to all of the columns having been poured, and the majority of the steel roof structure fabricated, painted and put in place.DrDave

Gypsum Ceiling297 viewsI don't know how they were able to keep out of each others way, but the gypsum ceiling guys and the tile guys were working at the same time. Here, the steel supports in the living room are going up. We used foil-backed gypsum, and it took about 3 working days to complete all the ceiling work.DrDave

Superstructure280 viewsView of the entire house, from the front. At the front is the covered porch - 2 meters deep by 8 meters wide. You can't see it in this picture, but there's a separate roof over this area, dropped down and recessed into the main roof by about 50cm.DrDave

Bedroom Tile265 viewsTile in the front bedroom almost finished.
First, they laid the "field" of the room (all of the tiles in the center that didn't need to be cut). Then, the next day, they could walk on these tiles to cut and lay all of the perimeter tiles.
Since this picture was taken, a 4" baseboard (skirting) has been installed in all rooms.DrDave

Day #42 - Tile264 viewsStarting to lay the tile. They began by laying a few rows straight from the rear to the front of the house. This view is from the kitchen, looking into the living room at the front of the house.DrDave

Breaker Box (Consumer Panel)260 viewsFirst they put it in the front bedroom. Then my wife told them to move it to the kitchen rear wall, above the washing machine, where it would be in a "utility area" out of sight. Where they actually put it was in the kitchen entryway, in plain sight when sitting in the living room. Really ugly. D'oh!DrDave

Electric Boxes260 viewsWhen we returned to the site, we found that they had installed the boxes for the plugs about 140cm off the ground. One of those things that makes you scratch your head and say "what were they thinking?". We had them move these down to about 40-50cm in the living room.DrDave
