Ground beam 'formwork'559 viewsAs mentioned, this is a low budget Thai style construction. We will be pouring the ground-beam concrete directly into the trenches in the earth, when the trenches have been lined with plastic sheeting. This will also fill the rest of the footing holes to lock everything in place.
The ground beams a re 20 x 20 with four runs of RB9 and RB6 braces at 20 cm.jazzman

Day 2 Materials549 viewsOrganising the materials, painting the steel with red oxide, straightening the rebar and digging the first couple of holes.
The sand cost 280 baht/cu, the gravel 380 baht/cu, and the TPI cement 95 baht per 50 kg bag. The smooth 9 mm rebar (RB9) cost 38 baht per 10 m length.
The pre cast reinforced columns 15 x 15cmx 2.50 m columns cost 275 baht each. They come with a cut-out on the top with a hole for bolting a steel or wooden ring-beam.jazzman

Ceiling fans538 viewsCheap, 48", only 590 baht in GlobalHouse. This one is just spot welded to the beam. It will be taken down again and the tube will be cut to the correct length for suspension in the circular ceiling recess.. The hook will then be securely bolted to the beam and the welds repainted.jazzman

Day 27 Gable ends.535 viewsWhile the roof was going on, all the wiring, switches and sockets have been installed. I am only counting the days actually worked. The foreman has bought a new car (I'm obviously paying him too much) so with that and a wedding in our family no work was done for over a week.
The soffit and the Conwood are leftovers from building the house. Tomorrow the ceiling team is coming to do the plasterboard ceilings (sheetrock) that will have circular recesses for the ceiling fans.jazzman

Green House Motel531 viewsThis is the only sketch that was made. No plans or blueprints were produced. It probably won't look anything like this when it's finished. basically, the foreman was given the dimensions and a floor plan and left alone to figure it out. What he's not sure about , he comes and asks.jazzman

Before524 viewsA clear view of the double C-section ridge beam. Needless to say, all the welds are retouched with red oxide before anything is irreversibly clad or ceilings are closed off.
Our land is L-shaped; today I started negotiating the purchase of the 1/3 rai (about 133 sq. wa, 155 m2) bit in the angle of the L. What a headache - he started off with a price higher than a plot in Pattaya!jazzman

Living in a small village has its charms - and advantages. With a bit of 'influence' we were able to get the new village portal built right next to our land. The entrance to the house is on the left just by the blue village name board. jazzman

Day 19506 viewsThe tiles arrived today. The last couple of days the workers have been adding the purlins, struts and battens to the rafters, and finishing the plumbing and drainage.
The 3" C-section rafters are spaced at 1m. The battens are spaced at 1m. Left over steel off-cuts are used for V-struts. The 1" x 1" x 6m battens cost 140 baht each.jazzman

Bathroom floor499 viewsThe bathroom floors will be concreted later. They are 5 cm lower than the room floors and have a 1:100 slope to the floor drain. The bathroom area looks small in the photo but it is really quite adequate at 1.4 x 2 m for a hotel room. I once rented an expensive condo in Bangkok with a smaller bathroom.jazzman
