roof tile battens1327 viewsThese galvanised steel W-section battens will take special self-tapping 'Profast' screws straight through from the tiles. Other 'Profast' self-tapping screws are used to screw them to the rafters. They can tap into the 3.3 mild steel obviating any predrilling. These battens have the huge advantage that laying the tiles is a one-man operation. Thais usually anchor their tiles by passing copper wire through the screw hole with a man underneath to do the tying.jazzman

ceiling tiles living room1312 viewsWe chose the modular, totally fireproof solid plaster tiles. Advantages: breathe, letting warm air escape upwards; Rapid installation, easy change to redistribute light fittings, fans etc ., . or just for a change of pattern! Price: from 22 baht per sq.m. The supporting rails cost next to nothing. Disadvantages: Some really kitchy pattern/colour combinations are available - your wife will LOVE them :)

Floor drain for bathrooms, kitchens, patios, etc.1268 viewsThese are made of high quality stainless steel, are an extremely effective design, easy to clean out and simply cute. They come in several sizes from square at 14 x 14 cm to rectangular at 14 x 32 cm. Disadvantage? The price! (like everything else from Cotto) - about 1,000 baht.
As Thai tilers usually cut tiles with their teeth (or so it seems), we found it better to avoid having them install circular drains.jazzman

There are four swivelling dichrotic lights embedded in it.

Living room ceiling1247 viewsThe ceiling was done this way because:
Mrs Jazzman wanted one like it.
It's very easy to install. Took 2 men 2 hours for 40 m2.
It's cheaper even than plasterboard (Shitrock?) at around 50 baht per m2 including the rails.
It gives instant access to any part of the attic.
Allows a rapid redistribution or addition of lighting elements and fans etc.
Jazzman likes it too (although he thought it was a bit kitsch at first)

Kitchen top1239 viewsNatural granite slabs for the kitchen worktops. This cost about 1,500 per sq.m. It has to be installed by the supplier who cuts out the holes for the hob and sink, and grinds and polishes the edges on site.
Suppliers charge as much again for this service plus petrol (gasline) costs if you are situated out of town.
This granite may seem expensive to some, but it is still much cheaper than that awful formica chipboard kitchen top stuff they use in Europe.jazzman

archway 21204 viewsDetail of the construction of the kitchen archway. The builders went OTT with the metal by taking nearly 2,000 baht's worth of prime load bearing steel from Jazzman's stock when a few strips of aluminium leftovers would have done. Another reason NOT to go shopping for the day in Udon ;)
There's no danger of it collapsing though, that's for sure!
