27 viewsThis is a large tower which services several small apartments and is more than what would be needed for a residential house, but it gives you an idea. The base of this one is 2.70 meters square. The height is about 5 meters and water capacity of about 2000 liters. (27-Apr-04)dozer

26 viewsThe hand dug well is a pretty amazing feat. A hole is dug to a slightly larger diameter than the circular drainage fitting to be used. The hole will be no more than about couple of centimeters wider than the rings. (24-May-04)dozer

25 viewsSometimes once water is hit some circular drainage fittings will be inserted prior to pumping out water, as in this picture. Although it doesn't look like it in this picture, the well digger is about 7 meters below ground level here! (09-Apr-04)dozer

25 viewsRegular Surface Dug Well: The basic materials for a hand dug well is a prefabricated concrete circular drainage ring drainage ringlike the one shown at the left. The drainage assembly comes in 3 basic diameters, 1 meter, 1.2 meter and 1.5 meters. Each piece has a depth of about 30 cm., so there are about 3 per meter. The smaller diameter is normally sufficient for a single house. (19-Apr-04) dozer

25 viewsSurface Well Problems: The side of the well needs to be filled in with small stones, to prevent air and water pockets forming outside the well. (12-Jul-04)dozer

25 viewsThe improper final set caused water pockets around the side of the well, which eventually burst the side causing water to rapidly flow in, bring in dirt. To correct this we pumped out the water and patched the large gaping hole.dozer
