Roman_columns.jpg
Tuscan PillarsThe drain pipes were carefully lifted and let down over the rebar and filled with concrete. If you wanted to save a lot of time and money and did't mind having round columns everywhere instead of square section ones, you could make them all this way. It would be a very strong construction, and give rise to some interesting comments about your architecture. We will be building our hexagonal sala (gazeebo) this way

so they tiled the roof...We thought we could catch up on a long overdue trip to Nakhon Pathom, Bangkok and Jomtien while they tiled the roof. Mail me, PM me, or simply post in the forum if you can spot the TERRIBLE MISTAKE they made while we were away. This was the only problem during the entire project. It was easily rectified, but it proves that expert supervision is needed all the time.jazzmanFeb 17, 2007
arch_detail.jpg
archway 2Detail of the construction of the kitchen archway. The builders went OTT with the metal by taking nearly 2,000 baht's worth of prime load bearing steel from Jazzman's stock when a few strips of aluminium leftovers would have done. Another reason NOT to go shopping for the day in Udon ;)
There's no danger of it collapsing though, that's for sure!

ceiling_tiles_living_room.jpg
ceiling tiles living roomWe chose the modular, totally fireproof solid plaster tiles. Advantages: breathe, letting warm air escape upwards; Rapid installation, easy change to redistribute light fittings, fans etc ., . or just for a change of pattern! Price: from 22 baht per sq.m. The supporting rails cost next to nothing. Disadvantages: Some really kitchy pattern/colour combinations are available - your wife will LOVE them :)

lintels for windowsThe formwork for the concrete lintels and corner posts of the octagonal bay window. The idea was to keep the corner posts as narrow as possible to allow for wide windows, whilst providing additional support for the octagonal roof.
