15 cm BlocksThere was an area of the house which required 20 cm wide blocks but unfortunately we had ordered 15 cm wide blocks. Here I am figuring out that you can use the 15 cm block anyway if you lay them on their side because all variations of block sizes are always 20 cm high (duh!!). dozerSep 26, 2011

AdhesiveA adhesive is used to fix the horizontal pieces of 6 mm rebar in the column. This rebar is fitted into holes drilled into the column and it extends into the first block next to the column to avoid separation problems. dozerSep 26, 2011

Aerated BlocksThe q con aerated blocks are glued into place. Each row is attached to the column with 6 mm rebar. dozerSep 26, 2011

Level LayerA level layer of cement mixed with sand is laid to ensure the block laying start on a level surface. Notice the clear leveling line. It is never assumed that the floor is perfectly level. dozerSep 26, 2011

Column Being Topped UpThis column is being topped up with Lanko 701 grout placed into formwork because the original poured height was too low. (oops!!)dozerSep 26, 2011

Crack VoidA slight crack/void in a column probably due to inadequate vibration. Some small voids like this are OK as long as their aren't too many. dozerSep 26, 2011

Metal SpacerA metal spacer is in place to set the position of the rebar during the walkway pour. It is good to use spacers in confined areas like this one which will not need to be walked on.dozerSep 26, 2011
