Concrete rings for sewerThese come in various sizes. These are 75cm inside dia., 50cm deep, hold 220 litres each and cost 90 baht each. Calculate ?€ x radius?² x depth, to get the volume. We use two silos of four of these rings; the silos are linked for 1st and 2nd stage processing. They will be sealed inside with bitumen paint. That gives us a total of 1,760 litres which is more than enough for a small household. Ready made glass fibre tanks of this capacity cost about 8,000 baht. Another $200+ saved!jazzman

septic tankTwo metres deep, 880 litres capacity - there are two of these: one for the black water and one for the grey water. The interior walls have been waterproofed with bitumen paint. Note that each toilet has it own separate entry. This avoids the need of breather pipes or vacuum release valves.
This is NOT a soak-away pit - the floor is 4" waterproof concrete. The black water is drained to the second identical septic tank before being evacuated to the leach field. The grey water first goes through a grease trap.jazzman

grease trap finished'Grey water' - that's the stuff from kitchen sinks, washbasins, washing machines and showers - generally doesn't contain contain solids that need to be bacterially decomposed, and is already largely disinfected by the additives in soaps and detergents. These detergents float on water and can be separated in a grease trap before the water is led away to leach. Keeping the grey water separate from sewage also helps prevent the bacteriological process in the septic tank from getting over-diluted. jazzman

Sewage FarmNo everyone's tastiest topic for discussion. This is a correctly designed double chamber system, separating the grey water and the black water. The back yard will be raised flush with the tops of the silos and the pipes will be buried.jazzman

Leach pipe.A leech system septic tank always end with a system of these. Should need no further description. It's a 4" / 100 mm pipe with holes drilled in it. See the forum on Plumbing to know more.
Seepage tanks should also have an overflow pipe. It is essential to measure the percolation of the substrate before simply installing the more simple seepage type of tank.jazzman

Back filling the floor spaces.The floor spaces between the runs of ground beams were filled in using the leftover earth from the footings and some of the earth that came out of the hole for the swimming pool.jazzman

Compacting the back fill.Once the floor areas between the footings had been filled with the leftover earth from the foundations, it was compacted every 10 cm. This is essential, as this will be a support for the concrete floor until it has fully cured, a process which will take a t least 28 days.
Thai builders don't think about doing this, and these had never used one before. This one costs about 25,000 baht to buy, but you can rent one for the duration of your construction for about 500 B.

Rolling out the damp courseBeing a Brit, Jazzman knows all about damp courses! 100 baht per roll from the local village hardware store. 3 rolls to cover the floor. Jazzman laid 2 cm of sand over it to prevent it being damaged by the concrete. The strips were overlaped and stuck with wide tape to prevent capillary action. Floor before the pour.Floor (about half the house is in the photo) ready to pour. The wire mesh is anchored to the walls and is propped up to prevent sinking during the pour. Height pegs with orange day-glo paint have been inserted to ensure level smoothing to the required height. The next day will be an early start with CPAC (1,400 baht/cu) arriving at 7 am. jazzman
