Squaring Off the Window OpeningsThe window and door openings are squared off after being initially roughly finished. It is after this process that they will be the correct size and position. dozer
IMG_8999.jpg
Pour of ArchwaysThe archways are formed using plywood forms (as shown). The base of the form work is rounded pieces of plywood supported by 2 x 3 inch wood strips. dozer

Lintel Pour above the Bathroom DoorHere the lintel is being poured about the bathroom door, and will be continued to the right to form a horizontal ring beam. dozer

ArchwayOnly the bottom portion of the archway is actually poured. The top of the archway (as seen to the left) will be continued using red bricks and mortar. dozer

WindowA window showing a horizontal ring beam underneath it, lintel/beam on top and vertical beams to either side. The picture is at an odd angle, the window is perfectly true (but doesn't look like it in the pic). dozer

Top of ArchwayNotice that top of the archway is being done in red bricks. Also note the vertical lengths of rebar spaced evenly and affixed to the box section at the top as a supporting framework for the archway structure. dozer

Bathroom Door FrameNotice the external bathroom wall. The door frame is affixed in two vertical beams + there is the associated lintel beam on top of the door frame. The extended beam is necessary due to the height of the wall. dozer

Archway Completed Section on the RightThe finished archway prior to rendering: notice the lower portion is poured within formwork and the upper portion is brick and mortar. The heavy lower portion is supported by a rebar strand framework which was welded on to the box section at the top. dozer

External RenderThe aerated blocks again use a specific product for the external render. It is a ready mix cement skim coat type product. It is easy to work and makes for a smooth and nice render finish. The final thickness of the walls will be 12.5 centimeters so this is being applied about 2.5 centimeters on each side. dozer
