quotes and quoting

It makes it easier if when replying to a post you quote only the relevant section. It becomes rather difficult to wade through the mounds of text otherwise.

Guidelines from a few other websites:

Quoting: Please exercise care with the 'Quote' facility, by first editing out the irrelevant part of the post, or posts, you wish to quote from. Without this, some posts amount to no more than a few words referring to a quote of a quote of a quote of a quote of a quote of a quote of a ... which can make the thread very frustrating to read.

Don't use unnecessary and/or long quotes - When using the quote function, only quote the parts of a previous post directly relevant to your reply. Unnecessary quotations make page lengths excessive and unwieldy to navigate. There is no need to quote the whole post made immediately prior to yours. Doing so breaks the flow of the conversation and forces people to re-read posts. Alternatively, use a "^" symbol (to indicate you are refering to the post immediately above yours), use "<--snip-->" (to indicate you have truncated a long quote) or just post a reply!

5. Please do not quote multiple nested quotes. Quote only the relevant section that you are discussing. Moderators will snip excessively long nested quotes.

Another thing to remember is that there is no reason to quote someone's really long post, especially if you're making a short reply. It's annoying, clutters threads, and is really unnecessary. If you are responding to an image posted, never, I repeat, never quote the picture or a video. We've all seen it once, we don't need to see it again in the next post down. Also, preview your post if you're quoting, especially if you've cut up a post and quoted point by point. It's easy to get confused with a lot of quoting BB Code and miss a /quote, ruining the entire format of your post. This can result in a reader being unable to distinguish when you or the other person is talking.
