Has anyone used fibreglass mesh for reinforcing plaster/render?

Its used a lot in Australia mainly when rendering over foam. In my current job, we have 4 properties being constructed with various foam walls. All have fiberglass mesh in the render. For all other surfaces we use acrylic renders without mesh. We don't have issues with the acrylic stuff.
With cement renders, it may help to stop cracking but i could be wrong. A steel mesh is usually used with cement renders.

Acrylic render

I took these photos today. Over the foam you can see the blue fiberglass mesh and a white base render. A finer finished layer goes on top. This will then be painted.
On the bricks we use 2 coats acrylic straight on.
