Thanks for sharing your photos, the glass blocks look interesting, nice to see a change from the usual standard.

I'm curious that you haven't added heat reflective foil under your roof tiles. It's almost standard practice now and saves a fortune in long term cooling bills.

Hi Itchy,
the photos are obviously not as good as they should be - we have got the reflective foil covering the whole roof, even both patio bits.

Nice to see that Jazzman is not alone in installing reflective foil. Some posters in the past have been very skeptical about its performance.

Nice also to see someone else also using the screw type battens. Did you have any problems getting your workers to accept this? (probably best to quote and answer this in the Roof forum).

We saw the same picture glass blocks too. We were very tempted, but decided that too many embellishments like this might break the bank HomePro wasn't it? We did however settle for a set of the Lime-Lite blocks which we embedded in the walls in various places around the house (pics will be added to Jazzman's album later today - watch this space). We used a lot of green glass blocks to decorates to front and rear patio doors and windows.

Hu Jazzman, I have to admit I had nothing to do with the choice of battens. The main driving influence here came from the g/f brother; he works as a roofer in BKK so should know, although his 'job' here was to look after the building work on our behalf. He also insisted we used a specialised sealing system (from CPAC) which sits under the ridge tiles. This was quite expensive but is supposed to provide much better protection from the weather than just using cement. Sorry I dont have more details, I might be able to get them (if you want them) when I get back to KK next week.
Since I have been back in UK they have had one day when it pissed down and according to she who must be obeyed we do not have any leaks. Let's see what happens when the wet season starts!!!!!!!!!

These were basically the final views I had before having to return to the UK. Since then the house has been nearly completed; wood floor in the master bedroom, granite tiles in living room and kitchen, aluminium windows and patio doors, everywhere painted. Work has also been going on with the kitchen fittings, the walk-in wardrobe and the stairs. I return next week and am hoping for a pleasant surprise; the girlfriend reckons it is 'suay' but she would. Anyway the monks have decreed that we have to sleep in the house on the 16th of this month so we shall see. I will be busy with the camera soon and hopefully will be able to post a few more pics of the finished thing in a couple of weeks.

Nice big house Thaifu, and tastefully appointed. I've noticed that you too have used reflective aluminium foil under your tiles. What did you do to vent the hot air through th top of the roof?

I also see that you too have laid Granito. What problems did you enounter with this?

So what is the normal way to vent air from the roof space anyway. I would suggest that one would require some vents to the apex of the roof.

When I build my house I want a "traditional" looking building with all the features one might expect for European style living. Would love to have a traditional style roof but any vent would spoil the image. Any suggestions?

It seems that the originator didnt respond to your queries. Wish he ha/she had done so so we can all learn.
